Once upon a time,

I had the luxury,

Of waking up next to you.

The colour of your eyes as they opened up from sleep,

The touch of your hand, underneath the sheet…

Once upon a  time,

We crossed the weir,

And got our feet all wet.

Rode home in the dark with the wind in my face,

You called out directions and I set the pace.

But now,

You’ve grown wings and flown away,

Your furniture all thrown away,

All across the salty distance,

Time and miles an empty difference.

You’re so far away,

I want to jump through the screen and catch you.

You’re so far away,

I want to jump through my skin and catch you.

Once upon a time,

You took me on a ferry,

To the edge of the world.

We drank wine in the sand where the waves were all curled,

Watched a lab chase a cloud of those white feathered birds.

But now,

You’ve got smart and flown away,

Took a job in a bank for the excellent pay,

Tell your stories to any stranger that listens,

Somewhere ‘cross the salty distance.

You’re so far away,

I want to jump through my screen and catch you.

You’re so far away,

I want to jump through my skin and catch you.

So go ahead,

Leave me behind,

My memory thread,

Is on rewind.

I blame myself,

For being afraid,

But please move close,

I’ll tap your face.

Your voice is warm,

We touch aloud,

This is how,

I love you now.

You’re so close,

I could jump through my screen and catch you.

You’re so close,

I could jump through my skin and catch you.

You’re so close,

I want to jump through my screen and grab you.

You’re so close,

I want to jump through my skin and grab you.

Once upon a time,

The air we breathed,

Was the same air.

And our chests rose and fell together,

My exhaled harmony took your measure.

But now,

I am desperate and you are bored,

There’s a whole city out there for you to explore,

And I’m just a head inside in a box,

And you just want to be unlocked,

It’s time to block,

My number…
